Why I Started a Website

As one often does, I’ve found myself at a fork in the road. It seems that it’s time to really nail down the age-old question: What do I want to be when I grow up?

To put it plainly, I want to “be” many things, many of which I already am.

I am a writer. I am a DJ. I am a Promotions Assistant for radio. I am a podcast host.

Contrary to popular belief, artistic folks like myself don’t make a shit ton of money starting out. Depending on the day, I wear different hats and make a living through a combination of “gigs.” Recently, a very consistent and well-paying gig was pulled out from under me, and I’m facing a lot of financial stress and wonder about the future, MY future. I’m a strong believer in making things happen, and there are many short-term and long-term goals that I’ve set for myself, mostly creative. Being a hat model, I have the decision to let my creativity suffer and take the easy way out (getting a whole new career that simply pays well), I could continue being a struggling artist, or I could do a combination of both. I’m still working out those details.

As a Virgo, I strive when I feel organized and in control. At the dawn of a new year, I found myself craving a solid plan (or plans) to achieve my goals and to really invest in myself. My first step, I thought, is to create a landing page for all of my endeavors. A place where support can be shown through booking me for a DJ gig, reading my latest blog post, purchasing my poetry books, indulging in my podcast, etc. This will not only allow me to hold my projects in one place, but will create a sense of “legitimacy” that I sometimes overlook in myself. Whether this will be a successful investment or not, we don’t know. But there is something to be said in taking a leap of faith, putting your credit card info in and creating a “dot com” with your name. I’d like to be an influencer, an artist, a local public figure. I’m excited to feed this website with my thoughts, art and business in order to make myself into a brand of sorts.

Thank you for reading, thank you for being here. Take a look around, let me know if you have thoughts, and I’ll talk to you soon.
